A Chilling Study in Cause and Effect - Finding the true cause of the Kandahar Riots

A Chilling Study in Cause and Effect - Finding the true cause of the Kandahar Riots
Illinois Review ^ | April 3, 2011 A.D. | John F. Di Leo

In a small town in Florida on March 20, the pastor of a small church held a public event: burning a koran for his audience and a video camera. His American Christian audience reacted as one would expect from them: they were happy to be a part of this provocative event; they returned to their homes and jobs after the service, and went on with their lives.

The world continued to turn… nobody of substance cared about Pastor Jones' latest attempt at news coverage… until almost two weeks later, when it made the news half a planet away, in Afghanistan.

The president of Afghanistan denounced the event; imams and mullahs hammered it in their mosques. Their Afghan muslim audience reacted as one would expect from them: they streamed out into the streets, hunting down foreigners, beating hundreds of UN aides, NATO staffers, contractors, travelers, journalists, soldiers… rioting in the streets, burning the shops in their own neighborhoods, destroying property, attacking innocent bystanders. At least a hundred injuries and dozens of killings were confirmed by the second day of the riots.

In a world in which thousands die tragically every day – from starvation to murder, from disease and neglect – these events might not seem particularly newsworthy. When aren't there riots in that part of the world? When aren't innocents killed? It happens every day.

President Obama: Black and more so

President Obama: Black and more so
LA Times ^ | 3 Apr 2011 | Gregory Rodriguez

Posted on Sunday, April 03, 2011 9:26:13 PM by mandaladon

By checking 'black' as his race on the census form, President Obama is at odds with clear demographic trends toward multiracial pride. The number of Americans identifying as both white and black jumped 134% in 10 years. It could have been a historic teaching moment. Instead, President Obama, the most famous mixed-race person in the world, checked off only one race — black — last year on his census form. And in so doing, he missed an opportunity to articulate a more nuanced racial vision for the increasingly diverse country he heads.

The president also bucked a trend. Last month, the Census Bureau announced that the number of Americans who identified themselves as being of more than one race in 2010 grew about 32% over the last decade. The number of people who identified as both white and black jumped an astounding 134%. And nearly 50% more children were identified as multiracial on this census, making that category the fastest-growing youth demographic in the country.

To be sure, the number of people — 9 million, or 2.9% of the population — who identified themselves as of more than one race on their census form is still small. But the trend is clear.

It has been only since 2000 that the federal government allowed Americans to identify themselves as of more than one race, and the change was one more step away from the sordid days when racial mixing was frowned on and even criminalized in much of the country. The increase in the number of Americans who now identify as racially mixed suggests not only an increase in absolute numbers, but also that people are growing more comfortable with the idea of racial mixing.

What happens on the Internet stays on the Internet (for all to see - maybe)

What happens on the Internet stays on the Internet (for all to see - maybe)
Digital Trends ^ | April 3, 2011 | Andrew Couts

NEWS FLASH: Once something is posted to the Internet, it's never going away.

This is a concept that many are still coming to terms with. But it's one that we must all face if we are to make wise choices about what we do and do not post online.

When the issues related to Facebook privacy percolate to the surface every couple of months or so, for example, the most practical Net citizens always offer a bit of advice that the rest of us can't quite seem to grasp: If it's not something you would share with everyone, don't share it at all.

This guiding principle applies to comments, pictures, videos and any other form of media that fits within the confines of this oh-so-popular series of tubes. But what happens when what's shown or said about you isn't within your control?

That conundrum — and how to solve it — is adding fuel to an industry of online image managers, companies that specialize in cleaning up the online you.

According to an article in this weekend's The New York Times Magazine, companies like Reputation.com have begun to make a killing by wrangling the vast and unwieldy details that have begun to plague Internet users.

Services like Reputation, whose tag line is "Make the Internet reflect reality," have long been used by celebrities or Wall Street bankers who hope to keep bad press from soiling their 'good name' in a Google search. At the height of the 2008 financial crisis, one banker reportedly spent $10,000 per month to maintain his online image.

Jesse Ventura: Sarah Palin will win

Jesse Ventura: Sarah Palin will win
The State Column ^ | April 3, 2011 | Staff

Posted on Sunday, April 03, 2011 7:26:33 PM by 2ndDivisionVet

Former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura, in an upcoming appearance on "Piers Morgan Tonight," says former Alaska governor Sarah Palin will win the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

"She's the type of person that certainly will be controlled by the status quo and the power structure. So she'd make a perfect candidate for them, she'll do what she's told," Mr. Ventura says.

The former Minnesota governor noted Ms. Palin's reality show and her current contributions on Fox News, saying the Republican Party is "grooming" her.

The former Alaska governor has yet to announce a presidential campaign. Ms. Palin has noted in the past her interest in seeking the nomination.

In making the prediction, Mr. Ventura seemed to overlook two potential candidates from his home state: Rep. Michele Bachmann and former governor Tim Pawlenty. Both Ms. Bachmann and Mr. Pawlenty have noted their intentions to seek the presidency

To meet the Obama administration's targets for increasing fuel taxes, researchers say that Americans will have to pay $7 for a gallon of gasoline; about 17 percent more than drivers in green-conscious and generally highly taxed Sweden. In their study, researchers at Harvard's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs devised several combinations of tax increases to address 70 percent of the oil used in the United States. The combinations were selected to match fuel consumption reduction targets. Most of their models assumed an economy-wide carbon dioxide tax starting at $30 a ton in 2010 and escalating to $60…

And thy face is Samantha Power… Should Obama win a second term in 2012, it is strongly rumored that Samantha Power will become our next Secretary of State with Hillary Clinton declining to serve another term. Clinton, a stalwart progressive/Marxist, was bad enough. Power, the wife of America's Regulatory Czar Cass Sunstein, is an unapologetic anti-semite and a monster extreme. Evil has unfurled its vast wings over America and the darkness is threatening a rapid descent. If only the good die young, America's time may have come if this event comes to fruition. Conservatives must win the election in 2012 if America is to survive as we have always known it.

I hate to break it to everyone, but Glenn Beck was right once again. The Responsibility to Protect Doctrine raises it's malevolent countenance bearing a striking resemblance to Stephen King's horror laden thriller "It." A chilling smile of bowel-watering ferocity is bearing down on the State of Israel. Power famously summized the following:

America About to Lose War on Terror

America About to Lose War on Terror
The Constitution Club ^ | 04-06-11 | Zazu

Posted on Sunday, April 03, 2011 5:52:12 PM by TheConservativeCitizen

It has often been said by anti-war activists that the War on Terror is impossible to win, well, increasingly it looks like it IS possible to lose this war. When pastor Terry Jones burned a Koran in his small Florida church, it sparked waves of protest and violence in Afghanistan. A UN compound was stormed and the staff butchered, some beheaded, and further violence is ongoing with new deaths feeding further violence.

President Karzai, the corrupt Afghan puppet who continues to draw breath thanks largely to the efforts of US servicemen, has condemned the act of free speech, and called for the US and the UN to prosecute the pastor. Obama issued a bumbling groveling apology where he condemned the book burning and not once mentioned the right of free speech. Now Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid wants to have hearings to condemn the pastor, and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham stated that the right of free speech must be abridged for the sake of the War on Terror saying "I wish we could find a way to hold people accountable. Free speech is a great idea, but we're in a war".

This is it, if America sacrifices the right of free speech, the War on Terror has been lost. If free expression can be muzzled because it is offensive, or because of the threat of violence, it no longer exists. Freedom to say what people want to hear is not freedom of speech, that sort of freedom is found even in North Korea. Our spineless President should have used this as a "teaching moment" as he likes to put it, explaining the concept of free speech to the Muslim world, and using his voice to condemn blasphemy laws and other religiously motivated prosecution of free speech one often finds in Muslim nations. Every American soldier is sworn to defend the Constitution, including the 1st amendment, if the US army kills every remaining member of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, but sacrifices free speech to gain this victory, then it will win the battle but lose the war.

God Bless America.

1) Divine laws exist that men did NOT make, and these "natural laws" are good.

2) Government is limited by the REALITY of natural laws.

3) Laws exist that men DID make, and these "human laws" are often bad because they deny the REALITY of natural and Divine law.

4) Law is the material necessary for the construction of a human conscience, and every human being has a conscience built with either good or bad law.

5) Government cannot save the human soul, but can encourage either its redemption or damnation, therefore, it must also be restrained by the Divine influence of conscience in order to limit the potential damages within its grasp and capability.

6) A conscience built upon good law acknowledges reality and thereby fosters the liberty produced by limited government................

You Just Gotta Love the Donald

You Just Gotta Love the Donald
The Constitution Club ^ | 04-03-11 | The Region Rat

WHETHER HE RUNS OR NOT, HE'LL DEFINITELY SHAKE THINGS UP

"Our weak president that kisses everybody's ass is in more wars than I've ever seen…nobody respects us."

Whether or not you like Donald Trump or think he has a snowball's chance in hell of actually winning the Republican nomination and going on to remove Barrack Obama from the White House is beside the point; dude says what's on his mind, and you gotta LOVE IT.

There is a vacuum in American leadership at a time when the world cannot afford for the U.S. to take a back seat to Europe, NATO, China or anyone else to whom the president chooses to defer. The bad guys are watching and they like what they see; a hesitant America who is more concerned with "world etiquette" than with world leadership when it is so desperately needed.

Whether he's blasting China for "screwing us," saying Ron Paul is a "nice guy who can't win," or telling Bill O'Reilly that America should "take the oil" in Iraq as reimbursement for the cost of the war, Trump is not afraid to speak his mind.

Between the mealy-mouth Obama and Congressional double-speak that continue to plague our nation, this guy is a no-nonsense, straight-shooting breath of fresh air. He speaks our language and he says the things we'd say if we could. What's not to like about that?

So why would the billionaire run? "America is becoming the laughing-stock of the world," the Donald says and he's sick and tired of it. "The United States has become a whipping post for the rest of the world," and Trump intends to right the ship.

Obama's promise of "restoring respect" for America has turned into a pathetic joke; not only has he failed to live up to that pledge, the exact opposite has occurred: America is less respected, and more ominously, less feared as a result of Obama's vacillation, lack of desire to lead, and proclivity to take a back seat to Europe on the world stage.

While Trump is saying the things we want to hear, and reciting conservative talking points at every opportunity, his chances of securing the nomination lie somewhere between nil and none.

His chances of stirring things up, focusing the conversation on what's wrong with America, and holding mealy-mouthed, double-speaking politicians to a higher level of accountability are excellent as long as the Donald keeps talking. The Rat suspects that will be for some time, and he loves it.

Donald thinks Bill Ayers wrote "Dreams from My Father" too.

I am a subject in a kingdom of lies. At 57, I have grown up with decades of untruth — advanced for the purposes of purported social unity, the noble aim of egalitarianism, and the advancement of a cognitive elite in government, journalism, the arts, and the universities.

Alger Hiss really was a communist operative, albeit an elegant and snooty sort of one. The Rosenbergs were tag-team spies. Noble Laureate Rigoberta Menchu did not really write her own memoir. I admire the lives of Gandhi and Martin Luther King, even as I sensed there were large areas of their biographies that simply could not be disclosed and that the censorship was apparently for our own good. I know that if I did what Eliot Spitzer did I would not be hosting a TV show.

I did not quite know how "witch hunt" characterized the often disreputable tactics of Joe McCarthy — cruel and obnoxious were the better adjectives. You see, there were really communists in Hollywood at a time of a dangerous global cold war against communism, in a way there were never any witches at all in Salem.

But then for some reason .........................

Top U.S. officials in Afghanistan on Sunday condemned the burning of a Quran in the United States that sparked three days of protests in which more than 20 people died.

Burning the Muslim holy book "was hateful, it was intolerant and it was extremely disrespectful and again, we condemn it in the strongest manner possible," said Gen. David Petraeus, who heads the U.S.-led international forces in Afghanistan.

U.S. Ambassador Karl Eikenberry said in a statement that Americans respect the Quran "and all religious texts and deplore any action that shows disrespect to any religious faith."

"At the same time, I want to emphasize, as have many Afghan leaders, that to attack and kill innocent people in response to the deplorable act of one individual is outrageous, and an affront to human decency and dignity," Eikenbery's statement said.

In a ceremony closed to both the media and general public, President Obama received an award from the "open government community" for having "the most transparent Administration in this nation's history." Lucy Dalglish of the Reporters' Committee for Freedom of the Press explained that "the meeting had to be kept closed to prevent the President's enemies from using the event for their own political advantage. This way the President can strictly control the information that is released to the public."

In remarks later released from the White House, President Obama declared himself "proud to be recognized as the most transparent President this nation has ever had," but modestly acknowledged that "I couldn't have achieved this without the unstinting support of my friends in the media. They have been veritable megaphones helping to promulgate my message of hope and change for America. Their loyalty will not be forgotten. Their reward will be a place of high honor in the New America I am creating for the American people."

Laura Barfield spends a lot of time these days swinging around Florida in her state-issued Chevy to defend the technology that the state uses to catch drunken drivers.

As the state's chief defender of the breath-testing Intoxilyzer, her job is to assure everyone that the most challenged of all forensic tests is accurate and reliable. In recent weeks, she has been called to testify in Sarasota, Hillsborough and Port St. Lucie counties. In the weeks ahead, she has dates with courtrooms in Taylor, Lake, Leon, Pinellas and Escambia. It has gotten to the point where the state's breath-testing machine is never not in litigation.

"It's never going to go away," Barfield says. "It's always going to be something."

The technology has evolved over 73 years, but it's more vulnerable to legal challenge than ever. Partly because of doubts about the Intoxilyzer, prosecutors have struggled to get convictions in some counties. Judges in two counties won't even allow Intoxilyzer evidence.

Mr. Obama’s Libyan Adventure

Mr. Obama's Libyan Adventure
 By Daniel Greenfield Full Story

imageIt's a lot easier to start a war than it is to finish it, as Mr. Obama is learning on his Libyan adventure. That is why wars are generally entered into after some consideration of the situation on the ground. There is only one excuse for a rush to war—and that is either an imminent threat or in response to an act of war. Such was the case after September 11, and yet even then the United States waited longer to begin bombing the Taliban—than we did before bombing Gaddafi.

Obama rushed in when bombing Libya was popular, and now when it hasn't he's rushing out again. The US is ending combat operations almost as soon as it began them to avoid being associated with the failure of the Libyan intervention. Or rather to avoid associating Obama with its failure.  Obama was happy to take credit for the fall of Mubarak until the Muslim Brotherhood stepped up to succeed him. He was happy to take credit for toppling Gaddafi until he realized that it wasn't going to happen without a full bore invasion. The Arab Revolt was cool, but now it isn't anymore. And Obama doesn't want to be associated with it anymore.  Suddenly it's last year's Keffiyah lying in the trash.

Has America Embraced the Spirit of Anti-Christ?
 By Kelly O'Connell Full Story
This essay is written for all principled free-thinkers, not just Believers. It examines the terrible impact on society of apostasy, symbolized by deviation from the biblical model in the American family structure over the past 50 years. This illustrates the devastating results of widespread heresy. Americans have abandoned their ancestral faith and practice, a subject affecting all persons, including the indifferent and non-religious. Therefore we can say a spirit of anti-Christ is unleashed. This is not to be confused with “The Beast” of Revelations whom many believe will come to establish an infernal kingdom on earth before the end of times. Instead, this general spirit opposes Bible teaching, contradicting the doctrines of Jesus and the Apostles, here illuminated by changing practices on marriage.

Beck backs Obama over Trump's attacks...but is it because he's worried Trump might replace him?
The London Sunday Mail ^ | April 3, 2011 | Simon Neville

Posted on Sunday, April 03, 2011 4:50:38 PM by 2ndDivisionVet

The last person President Barack Obama might expect support from is controversial Fox News host Glenn Beck. The presenter seemed to give his backing to the President against heavy criticism by Donald Trump who has questioned whether he was born in America and that he may be a Muslim. But Beck's warning that Trump's remarks are making him 'a little uncomfortable recently' may have more to do with Fox News announcing the billionaire will be given a regular slot on the station, while the host's show may be scrapped.

He was speaking on the channel's The O'Reilly Factor show on Friday, where he discussed Trump's two-part interview earlier in the week. Trump, who is considering whether to throw his hat into the ring to become Republican nominee for President at the 2012 election, said Obama 'doesn't have a birth certificate'. He went on: 'Now, he may have one but there is something on that birth certificate — maybe religion, maybe it says he's a Muslim, I don't know. Maybe he doesn't want that. Or, he may not have one.' Beck told Bill O'Reilly 'There is something reasonable to, you know, a reasonable conversation if you don't believe that he has a birth certificate.

'You can say, "I don't believe he has a birth certificate." But then he goes into "I do not believe he has a birth certificate" and then he releases one that's worse than Obama's. 'And then he comes back and he says on your program, "He might be a Muslim too." I'm like, come on!'

ARE THEY GETTING NERVOUS, OR ARE THE WALLS COMING DOWN?

Image of what was purported by Factcheck.org to be Obama's "birth certificate" in August 2008
(Apr. 3, 2011) — It has been reported that the image of Obama's purported Certification of Live Birth has been removed or is otherwise unavailable from the website of Factcheck.org as of April 3, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
The image still appears on Obama's "Fight the Smears" website from 2008.  Under the image there is a submission with Factcheck's logo which reads:
When Barack Obama Jr. was born on Aug. 4,1961, in Honolulu, Kenya was a British colony, still part of the United Kingdom's dwindling empire. As a Kenyan native, Barack Obama Sr. was a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.'s children.
Since Sen. Obama has neither renounced his U.S. citizenship nor sworn an oath of allegiance to Kenya, his Kenyan citizenship automatically expired on Aug. 4,1982.

Why We Need Donald Trump

Why We Need Donald Trump
Intellectual Conservative ^ | April 3, 2011 | Steven D. Laib

Donald Trump may not be an officially declared candidate, but he is already playing an important role in the run up to the 2012 election. Here's why he may play a key role in the proceedings.

I've never been a real fan of Donald Trump. He always impressed me as more of a showman than anything else, and I've never had much admiration for anyone who made a spectacle of himself. But in the right time and place, Donald Trump, bad hair and all can be an asset. Now may be that time and place.

Don't take this as some kind of endorsement of Trump as a presidential candidate. I have some serious reservations about whether or not he may be able to function in the White House. After all, his personality might find it extremely difficult to handle situations where he can't carry the day by telling anyone in earshot "You're Fired!" There are other concerns on a policy level, but this writing is not directed toward them. There will be plenty of time to go there if he becomes a serious candidate.

In the mean while, what is more important is what a Donald Trump candidacy can bring to the election and to the Republican Party. There are, at bottom line, three things that present a problem on the current electoral scene:

California lawmakers fight over bill to teach students about gay people's contributions

California lawmakers fight over bill to teach students about gay people's contributions
L.A. Times ^ | April 1, 2011 | Patrick McGreevy

Reporting from Sacramento -- As the battle over same-sex marriage makes its way through California's courts, another gay rights fight is smoldering in the Legislature.

Democratic lawmakers have revived a plan to require state schools to teach about the contributions of gay, lesbian and transgender Americans. They are reigniting a movement that halted five years ago when legislators approved such a requirement only to run into opposition from then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Now, with a Democrat in the governor's office, the lawmakers and gay rights activists are more hopeful that school curricula will be revised.
