The first announced stop on President Obama's upcoming bus tour of the Midwest will be in Peosta, Iowa, the White House announced Friday.
'[T]he President and members of his Cabinet will host the White House Rural Economic Forum at Northeast Iowa Community College,' a White House statement read. 'The Forum will bring together small business owners, private sector leaders, rural organizations and government officials to discuss ideas and initiatives to promote economic growth, accelerate hiring, and spur innovation in rural communities and small towns across the nation.'
Obama will embark on a three-day tour from Aug. 15 - 17. The administration said Wednesday that the trip had long been planned, but did not outline an itinerary beyond saying the stops would be in the Midwest.
The president will be in Iowa only days after the Ames Straw Poll, which is the generally seen as the first big test for the field of Republican hopefuls looking to challenge Obama in 2012.
The White House is billing the bus trip as an administration event, and it will run the operation, not Obama’s reelection campaign."

"Pennsylvanians on public assistance now have a new ‘civil right’ — free cell phones. Meanwhile, the rest of us get to pay higher cell bills as a result.
Recently, a federal government program called the Universal Service Fund came to the Keystone State and some residents are thrilled because it means they can enjoy 250 minutes a month and a handset for free, just because they don’t have the money to pay for it. Through Assurance Wireless and SafeLink from Tracfone Wireless these folks get to reach out and touch someone while the cost of their service is paid for by everyone else. You see, the telecommunications companies are funding the Universal Service Fund to the tune of $4 billion a year because the feds said they have to and in order to recoup their money, the companies turn around and hike their fees to paying customers.
But those of use paying for the free service for the poor, should be happy about this infuriating situation, says Gary Carter, manager of national partnerships for Assurance, because “the program is about peace of mind.”

I was speaking with my father (who is now in his 80th year) when he told me that he had been asked to give a short talk to a group of young schoolchildren about his experiences in the 1939-1945 war.
Whenever he talks about the war the name of Peter Ortiz is always mentioned with some awe and respect.
In order to find out a little more about him we searched the web and came across your excellent sites.

Stolen cars, drugs, cash and weapons were found in another one of the four houses raided that May 5 morning, but Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said no one has been arrested because an ongoing homicide investigation tied to this case is 'much bigger.'
'We could go out and make some arrests today, and we could've made some arrests some time ago, but we have two different investigations going on and the homicide is a priority,' Dupnik said. 'And we don't want to turn off the flow of certain information.'

The idea of a “new legislative body” emerged from debate on raising the debt ceiling so that the federal government could avoid a default on its debt to other nations.
Most Americans oppose the new “agreement,” and The New York Times is reporting that congressional disapproval is now at a “record 82%.”
The U.S. Congress has allowed the nation’s debt to climb to more than 100% of its gross domestic product, which has not occurred since World War II. In its report, Fox News made a reference to the Super Congress only as “a joint committee.”
Sen. Mitch McConnell has called the Super Congress a “powerful, joint committee.” An editorial posted on Yahoo! News stated that the proposed group would be “making decisions behind closed doors.”

Officials could not say what started what witnesses said was a series of racially charged incidents that apparently began as early as 7 p.m. in the Midway. The Midway is located just east of the Pettit National Ice Center and adjacent to the Hank Aaron Bike Trail.
Milwaukee police confirmed there were assaults outside the fair as the fair was closing down. The fair closes at 11 p.m.
Witnesses told WTMJ-AM (Radio 620) that dozens to hundreds of young blacks were beating white people as they left the fair late Thursday night. Patrice Harris, a Fair spokeswoman, said a police alert she was given indicated four people were hurt.
